When many people think of Queens, they imagine that it is like many of the other parts of New York City, filled with concrete and glass. The borough has a number of great parks though, where you will be able to enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine. The parks offer meadows, forests, and wetlands.
One of the most popular parks in the area is Alley Pond Park, where you will be able to take part in the Alley Pond Park Adventure and learn how to fish, use a company, and paddle a canoe. The park also has many of the other features that you would normally associate with a city park, including playgrounds for the kids and picnic tables. The park has 26 acres of playing fields.
Take a walk along the Alley Pond Park Nature Trail, which was the first trail of its kind in the city's park system. Visitors to the park will also be able to see the many different types of birds and other wildlife that make the park their home.
At the Alley Pond Environmental Center, children and adults will be able to attend programs that teach them about the geological history of the park, and all of the different animals they might encounter. The Center is open 7 days a week from 9AM to 4:30PM, except on holidays. The walking trails are open from dawn to dusk. When you arrive at the park, you will be able to find plenty of parking, which is free.
If you've had enough of the big city for a while, you might enjoy spending a few hours relaxing under the trees or enjoying a picnic lunch while the little ones play on the playground. It's a great way to get out of the city without ever leaving and Alley Pond is a great water park in New York.
